Analytical Fracture Mechanics Analysis of the Pull-out Test including the Effects of Friction and Thermal Stresses
نویسنده
چکیده
The energy release rate for propagation of a debond in a single-fiber pull out test was derived analytically. The key finding was that an accurate analysis can be derived by a global energy analysis that includes effects of residual stresses and interfacial friction but does not need to include the details of the stress state at the interfacial crack tip. By comparison to finite elements analysis, it was verified that the analytical results are very accurate provided the debond tip is not too close to either end of the specimen. By casting the results in terms of net-specimen stress, it was possible to derive a general energy release rate result that applies to both the pull-out test and the related microbond test. The energy release rate expressions can be used to determine interfacial fracture toughness from single-fiber pull-out tests or microbond tests.

متن کاملFracture Mechanics of Composites with Residual Stresses, Imperfect Interfaces, and Traction-loaded Cracks
By partitioning the total stresses in a damaged composite into either mechanical and residual stresses or into initial and perturbation stresses, it was possible to derive two exact results for the energy release rate due to crack growth. These general results automatically include the effects of residual stresses, tractionloaded cracks, and imperfect interfaces. These effects are normally not ...
متن کاملFrequency Response Analysis of a Capacitive Micro-beam Resonator Considering Residual and Axial Stresses and Temperature Changes Effects
This paper presents a study on the frequency response of a capacitive micro-beam resonator under various applied stresses. The governing equation whose solution holds the answer to all our questions about the mechanical behavior is the nonlinear electrostatic equation. Due to the nonlinearity and complexity of the derived equation analytical solution are not generally available; therefore, the ...
متن کاملEffect of Tool Shoulder and Pin Cone Angles in Friction Stir Welding using Non-circular Tool Pin
In friction stir welding frictional heat is generated by the rotating tool, sliding over the stationary plate along the weld centre. Tool being the only source of heat producing member, its geometrical design influences the heat generation rate. In this present work, effects of variation in tool shoulder and tool pin taper angles on thermal history during joining are analysed. Tools with triang...

Friction stir spot welding (FSSW) is a type of solid state welding that is used in the connection of small pieces and light metals such as aluminum alloy especially. The technical problem during melting of aluminum alloys is one of the most important reasons for developing application of friction stir welding for aluminum alloys. In this research, the effects of important processing parameters ...
